Communications Director for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yaw Buaben Asamoa has stated that if the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has disagreements with the Electoral Commission’s decision to compile a new voter’s register, they can proceed to court.
The Adentan Member of Parliament indicated that, Article 45 1A of the 1992 constitution of Ghana talks about the duties and responsibilities of an Electoral Commission hence no protest from the NDC will prevent them compiling a new Voter’s register as mandated by constitution.
He alleged that “NDC’s allegations are baseless. I will not listen to NDC’s baseless allegations and baseless issues. Some of these things are just ridiculous”
‘’NDC can go to court and challenge the EC if they think there are not doing the right thing, all the agitations by the NDC are not based on law,’’ Yaw Buaben Asamoah told Reynolds Agyemang on ‘Pae Mu Ka’ on Accra-based Kingdom FM 107.7
He noted that, the NDC could proceed to court and compel the EC to desist from compiling a new register instead of engaging in stress protest and attacks on the commission.
The EC, however, has explained that the integrity of the 2020 polls could be undermined if a new roll and a new Biometric Voter Management System were not deployed.
