Government committed to the wellbeing of workers

Dr Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah, Ashanti regional Minister, has appealed to workers of the Local Government Service to support government’s efforts at improving the quality of life of the people.

He asked them to work hard and put their expertise at the disposal of the assemblies to assist them to discharge their duties effectively.

Dr Agyemang-Mensah said this in an address read for him at the 9th quadrennial delegates’ conference of the Local Government Workers Union in Kumasi.

“Working in partnership with the Local Government Service for improved local government service delivery”, was the theme for the two-day meeting, of which more than 500 delegates from across the country attended the event.

Dr Agyemang-Mensah called on all stakeholders to work together to ensure the successful implementation of the Local Government Service Act (Act 656), to promote good governance at the local level.

The Act, he said, was meant to deepen democracy, decentralization and sustainable development.

Dr Agyemang-Mensah spoke of the need for capacity building for staff of the service and improved working conditions.

He commended the union for the mature manner it handled issues pertaining to the migration of the workers onto the Single Spine Salary Scheme.**
