Action Youth for Mahama (AYM), a youth group aligned with the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has promised to deliver 1.5 million votes in the Ashanti Region to the ruling party in the coming general election.
Mr. Haruna Ibn Yahaya, the National Vice Chairman, said the target was not beyond reach, considering the massive infrastructure development seen by people in the region under the Mahama Administration.
He said there could be no doubt that the electorate would reward this with their votes.
Speaking at the national launch of the AYM in Kumasi, he said although the party had targeted one million votes in Ashanti - the hotbed of political opposition, the group was confident that with the adoption of the right campaign strategy this was going to be exceeded.
Its members would be out there to engage, educate and tell the success story of the government to every potential voter.
Mr. Yahaya said they were determined to work hard and make the necessary sacrifices to return President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC to power, adding that, the party’s performance in the region would be critical to the achievement of that goal.
He spoke of the need for a united front and called for all the party members and supporters to work with unity of purpose for a resounding election victory.
He cautioned against complacency and asked everybody to become active part of the campaign – they should get down to serious business.
Mr. Abdul Jalil-Rahman, the AYM Chairman, said the group would do everything to ensure that President Mahama was re-elected.
It would give strong push to the campaign machinery of the party at the polling station, constituency, regional and national levels.
He reminded the members to be civil and avoid the use of intemperate and inflammatory language.
