The National Vice Chairperson elect of the ruling New Patriotic Party says one main challenge facing the party is to find means to patch up out-going chairman Haruna Esseku and President Kufuor.
Madam Hawa Yakubu who won her position with the widest of margins says it will be in the ultimate interest of the NPP to find the root cause of the seeming tension between the two leaders and find lasting solution to it. Madam Hawa Yakubu was speaking to newsmen after she was declared winner at her party?s delegate?s congress in Accra.
According to her, ensuring a strong bond between party and government should be a paramount interest for the party. ?In politics these things do happen but it shouldn?t divide us. We need to find out the genesis of this gap between the President and Mr. Esseku. This is one of my challenges and I and the team elected would work at bringing them together?.
The former chairman was not present at the congress after he withdrew his candidature a night before the congress.
