Here are the security measures and seating arrangements for Mahama's swearing-in

The Co-Spokesperson of the Transition Team, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has announced that all is set for the inauguration of President-Elect John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at Black Star Square in Accra.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Saturday, January 5, 2024, he outlined the seating and security measures put in place for the historic event.

Here is a breakdown of the security and seating arrangements for the event:

The Black Star Square will be divided into three designated zones.

The Parliamentary Sitting Area (Zone 1) will be restricted to invited guests, with access granted only upon presentation of an invitation card.

Zone 2 which is the Public Stands, will be open to the public, with strict security and safety measures in place. Large LED screens will be set up to provide better visibility of the event for attendees.

Zone 3 is reserved for the media, where accredited journalists will have access to a designated area equipped with facilities to support their coverage.

Traffic and parking arrangements:

To ensure smooth movement during the event, several roads in Accra will be temporarily closed. The affected roads include 28th February Road, Osu Cemetery Traffic Light, Castle Road, and Starlet 91 Road.

Traffic will be diverted to alternative routes such as Salem Avenue, Oxford Street, and Liberia Road.

Designated car parks will be available at the back of the Independence Arch, the Forecourt of the State House, and the Access Bank Car Park.

International participation:

The inauguration will host ten heads of state, two vice presidents, one speaker of parliament, two former presidents, and numerous heads of international organisations.

Media accreditation:

Over 700 media accreditation applications have been submitted for the event. Accredited journalists will have access to designated areas, with a clean feed provided for all TV stations and channels to ensure centralized TV production.
