Ho based pressure group condemns media attack on appointees

Ho, June 17, GNA - One Ghana Network, a Ho based pressure group, has expressed concern over media attacks on political appointees in the Volta Region by a group of people calling themselves foot soldiers of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

At a press conference in Ho, Mr Eric Afenyo, Convener of the Network, said anonymous letters and posters being pasted in the Region against the appointees were symptoms of "pull him down" which must not be encouraged. He said such attitudes would only retard the development of the Region as the appointees would not have the zeal and motivation to work and bring development to the Region.

Mr Afenyo said writing of anonymous letters, the hijack of public facilities; "violent and baseless demonstrations" were at variance with the exercise of the individual's civic responsibilities. "What our generation needs is industrious, proactive leadership, morally disciplined and technologically advanced people and not machos and bullies," he said.

He said it was regrettable that the Region was fast becoming a safe haven for agitations, open attacks and threats on personalities. Mr Afenyo said though demonstrations were allowed in the country's Constitution, attempts to malign and cause leaders to be removed unjustly must be condemned.

He commended Mr Joseph Amenowode, Volta Regional Minister and Municipal and District Chief Executives in the Region for championing the development of the Region and urged them to continue their "good works." Mr Afenyo said with the Region's agricultural and agribusiness potentials, oil find and salt boom, the future of the Region remained bright and called for oneness and purposefulness.
