I am campaigning as founder/father of NDC-Rawlings

Old Ningo (GAR), Dec. 03, GNA -- Former President Jerry John Rawlings on Friday stated that he has joined the campaign trail of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as the founder and father of the party. This does not imply that he would control the party's presidential aspirant, Professor John Evans Atta Mills when the NDC is voted to power on December seven.

Former President Rawlings was addressing separate rallies at Prampram and Old Ningo in the Dangme West constituencies where he earlier paid courtesy calls on the chiefs and elders of the two towns.

The NDC, he said believes in the totality of strength and unity and does not practice tribal politics thus making it possible to come down to the level of all Ghanaians, irrespective of their status, political affiliation and ethnicity, among others.

The Former president said the NDC undertook a lot of developmental projects and satisfied the basic needs of the people during its administration but unfortunately the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has come to erode all the gains made.

To this end, he called on all NDC supporters and sympathisers to take the poor governance of the NPP into serious consideration and vote massively for the return of the NDC and all parliamentary candidates to enable it continue its laudable governance and developmental projects. To achieve this however, requires the closing of their ranks and not to allow petty squabbles among them generate into confusion and conflict.

He said coup d' tats, occurs when there is injustice in the system coupled with corrupt practices of a ruling government. He explained the meaning of the NDC colours saying that while the black stands for revolution, green for love/dignity, red for the shedding of blood and white for victory.

Mr. Enoch Teye Mensah, the incumbent Member of Parliament denied allegation that he failed to construct a bridge linking Prampram and Ningo and explained that the change in government created the problem, while the NPP government also delayed in releasing funds for the project.

He also denied diverting cement meant for the construction of the bridge for his personal use, arguing that he would have been dealt with long ago.

According to Mr Mensah, he foiled plans by the NPP to bribe some Electoral Officers to rig the elections.
