Director of Operations of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Divine Nkrumah, has added his voice to the ongoing conversation about former President John Agyekum Kufuor’s endorsement of Dr. Bawumia, flagbearer of the ruling party.
Speaking on the Angel Morning Show on November 20, 2024, Divine Nkrumah stated that former President Kufuor has every right to declare his support to Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia.
According to him, the former president was a president on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), so Alan Kyerematen should not expect him to endorse any other presidential candidate.
Divine Nkrumah explained that former President Kufuor is who he is today because of the NPP; therefore, he cannot betray his party’s candidate to support Alan Kyerematen or any other person.
According to him, he does not have any issues with the former president’s endorsement since if it were to be him; he would never hesitate to declare his support to his party flagbearer.
“I don’t have any issues with former President Kufuor’s endorsement, like, who he should support in the race because if it were me, I would do the same irrespective of where he is…to me, I don’t have any issue with him because he was a president in the name of the NPP,” he stated.
Mr. Nkrumah further disagreed with the former president’s remarks that Dr. Bawumia is the only person that can move Ghana forward based on the experience he has gained since being elected as the vice president of Ghana.
He argued that Ghanaians’ problems started under the Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia government, a situation he said has made the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, look angelic, while under his tenure of office, things were worse.
“Kufuor said Ghanaians should be able to rise in the next five years. I believe that the challenges and the problems that Ghanaians are going through started with the NPP, and the former president said Bawumia is the best person to solve Ghana’s problems, and this has made John Mahama look angelic and clean,” he said.
