Vice President and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has refuted allegations of reckless spending by the Akufo-Addo-led administration, asserting that the government has judiciously utilised funds for long-term national benefit.
Speaking at the 8th Ghana CEOs Summit in Accra, Dr. Bawumia emphasised the administration's commitment to prudent financial management.
“The networking of the hospitals—you know, Ghana.gov—all of these things have been spearheaded. So, the government is not uploading and spending upfront,” Dr. Bawumia stated.
He highlighted the government's strategic investments in essential infrastructure and digital initiatives as evidence of responsible spending.
Looking ahead, Dr. Bawumia outlined his vision for a more efficient government, proposing a reduction in the number of ministers to cut down on public expenditure.
“My view, as I have stated, is that let us bring down government expenditure between 3 and 5 percent. I believe that I can run a government with 50 ministers rather than what we are doing today,” he asserted.
