I knew I would be rejected – Amaliba

Defeated parliamentary aspirant of the ruling National Democratic Congress Abraham Amaliba has revealed that he was aware he was going to lose the Bolgatanga Central primary even before the race started.

According to him, voters of the NDC in the constituency were distracted by the tribal card which was played by his opponent against him.

The legal practitioner and lecturer lost the Saturday primary to Isaac Adongo, who polled 4,290 votes as against his 3,050.

Speaking to Nii Arday Clegg on the Morning Starr Monday, Amaliba said even though he is disappointed by the turn of events, he will nonetheless contest the slot again just to fight tribal politics.

“I was forewarned that the people of Bolga Central were not going to accept me because of this ethnocentrism and tribal sentiments that is deeply rooted in Bolga.

“But I thought that I had done so much to rise above that; and for the people to accept that I may not have come from here but I have contributed enough. But the results rather showed that they have sacrificed competence for tribal considerations…I have always known that the people were not going to accept me fully,” he bemoaned.

The NDC on Saturday held its presidential and parliamentary primaries across the country to elect candidates for the 2016 elections.
