I'll resign from politics if Mahama is not made flag-bearer of NDC - Obiri Boahen

Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen has promised to quit active politics if former President John Dramani Mahama is not made the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2020 polls.

“I will resign from politics if John Mahama is not made the flagbearer of the party. Mark my words because the leadership of his party is skewing to make him the flagbearer. Aside Mahama who else can the NDC present as a credible candidate for the 2020 polls”, he quizzed.

He called on others who are seeking to contest him for the same slot to consider joining the NPP so that after 2020 when Mahama suffers another humiliating defeat they can go back to the NDC and take their turn because it is not possible for them to be allowed to lead the party.

“Mahama with the support of the executives have hijacked the party because he is their preferred candidate. Spio and co cannot get the opportunity to be flagbearers. My advice to them is that they should immediately join the NPP and wait after 2020 when Mahama suffers another defeat they can rejoin the NDC and contest”, he advised on Asempa Fm on Monday.

According to him, it is easier for the NPP to defeat Mahama should he bulldoze his way into becoming the flagbearer because the party has strong strategies in place to defeat the NDC at the polls once it is former President Mahama who would be presented as the torch bearer of the umbrella family
