I’m no coward…I didn’t chicken out of public debate - Dr Bissiw

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Tano South, Dr. Hannah Louisa Bissiw, has expressed grave surprise at news making rounds that she deliberately snubbed the constituency’s maiden debate organized by the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) for parliamentary aspirants contesting in the 2012 elections in the area.

Dr. Bissiw claims no official letter was sent to her by the NCCE about their desire to engage her in a public debate with other parliamentary aspirants in her constituency.

Though media reports say the NCCE officially wrote a letter to Dr. Bissiw requesting her participation, the NDC Parliamentary candidate flatly denied this.

According to her, she only became aware of the debate whiles selling her campaign message to some students she had gone to visit.

Earlier media reports indicated that supporters of the ruling NDC who had thronged the Bechem Methodist Church hall in their numbers to cheer Dr. Bissiw on, left in abject disappointment when she failed to turn up for the event.

Dr Bissiw, who is also the Deputy Minister for Works and Housing, believes this is just an attempt to cause disaffection for her and also make her unpopular in the constituency.

“Believe me, this won’t see the light of day because I’m blessed and loved by God,” she told peacefmonline.com in an interview.

Whiles acknowledging that the decision to hold a public debate by the NCCE was a great idea, she slammed the body for failing to live up to its role of educating the people about their constitutional rights in the area.

She further accused Madam Cynthia Anima Boadu, head of NCCE in Tano South, of being an NPP sympathizer.

“…I am reliably informed that she (Cynthia Anima Boadu), had once contested for a position in the NPP,” Hanna Bissiw claimed.
