National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential hopeful, Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah has advised his supporters in the party not to jump the gun by calling him an automatic 2020 presidential candidate of the party.

“Most of the times when people say are you the 2020 presidential candidate for NDC, I tell them I'm still consulting”, the former Minister of Trades revealed.

The NDC leading member who admits the party is not in a good shape to win elections in the country urged those who wish to lead the party in 2020 as flagbearer to shelve their ambitions for the time being.

“When a vehicle is grounded, you do not ask for the driver... First of all, you must be interested in getting spare parts to fix it and take it from the blocks before you will now be thinking of who to drive it,” he pointed out.

According to him, it will be much difficult for NDC to wrestle political power from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) with fractious front calling other presidential hopefuls of the party to work towards unity in the party.

“We have gone through a very difficult electoral defeat and Kwesi Botchewey report speaks to most of it”, he disclosed during one-on-one interview with the host of Good Evening Ghana, Paul Adom Otchere

“I will refer to NDC as a vehicle that has been found in an accident and where we are looking for some spare parts to repair the transmission or to repair the steering wheel”, he described.

“It is more important to make sure that this NDC party is united. I am until now and even after now is to work with other presidential hopefuls to keep the party more united”, Dr. Ekwow Spio Garbrah stated.
