Presidential hopeful of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah has said he is yet to receive a call from former President John Mahama to persuade to rescind his decision to run for the flagbearer of the party.

According to him, what is making rounds in the grapevine is speculative since the former president himself is yet to call him to make such a proposition to partner him for the 2020 elections.

Responding to a question from Ghanaweb’s Kyenkyenhene Boateng if he will be prepared to step down and accept to be the running mate to the former President should he officially declare his intention to contest in 2020, the former Trade and Industry Minister said: ’He hasn’t called to say that. You are speculating and we can’t discuss speculative ideas here otherwise we will be tickling ourselves. Let’s wait and cross the bridge when we get to it but at this time and based on the documents in front of you, since 2006 I have made it known to Ghanaians and people all over the world if NDC is looking for a leader, if Ghana is looking for a leader, I am one of many people that they could consider for that leadership”.

He disclosed that delegates of the NDC who will vote for flagbearer should be given a choice since that is the desire of everyone.

“When you go to the supermarket, you do not only see one toothpaste sitting on the shelf and you pick that one. Even if there are seven other toothpaste and that one is the best, the seven will also be there just in case you want your teeth to be brighter, whiter or bad breath or whatever people are looking for…different products offer different solutions”, reiterating that there is the need for delegates to be given the choice.
