I resigned my position to save NDC - Ahwoi

Accra, Sept. 22, GNA - Mr Kwamena Ahwoi, one of the persons responsible for the birth of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), on Thursday said he resigned from the position of Director of Research to enable him to help to solve the current rumpus in the Party. Explaining why he resigned in a telephone interview with the GNA, Mr Ahwoi said as a Director of Research he was a member of the National Executive Committee and the Functional Executive Committee and was, therefore, seen as part of the group that was engaged in the trading of accusations.
He said since the rumpus or accusations and counter accusations were coming from the executive organs of the Party it was better for him to get outside them to put him in a better position to contribute towards solving the problems.
Mr Ahwoi said according to signals he was receiving he was being perceived as belonging to the group that was engaged in the problem hence his decision to resign.
Mr Ahwoi, who was one time Minister of Local Government and Rural Development; Planning and Regional Integration and Foreign Affairs during the PNDC/NDC regimes, said if he became a neutral member it would enable him to use his connections within the Party to resolve the issue. He said as an inner member of the NDC and well related to the Party members he would with the application of the "principle of collectivity" find his new position more neutral to tackle the issue. He gave the assurance that the Party would soon overcome the seeming confusion and maintain its cohesion and that the Party's followers should not be discouraged.
Mr Ahwoi said the NDC would win power in 2008 and that no one should be deceived into thinking that because of the internal squabbles the determination of the Party to re-assume power should be underrated. In his resignation letter addressed to the Party's Acting General Secretary and copied to the press, Mr Ahwoi did not assign any reason for his action.
Some National Executive Members of the Party have been engaged in media war throwing accusations and counter accusations at each other, recently.
