The Ashanti Regional Minister-designate, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has stated that he will leverage his social media platforms to promote good governance.
Speaking during his vetting by the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Monday, January 27, 2025, Dr. Amoakohene, who is very active on social media platforms, particularly TikTok, emphasised the importance of engaging the youth through social media, given its influence in modern society. He noted that the communication landscape has evolved significantly over the years.
“I want to assure the House that I’m not going to overly rely on social media. However, the platforms will be available so that the youth who want to reach me can still send a message. There will be a team to review the messages and draw my attention to them so that I can assist when needed,” he explained.
He reflected on how societal interactions have changed, saying, “In the past, when I was young, my father would send me to a community center where people played Ludu, among other activities. These centers no longer exist. There is now a new society known as social media, where we share ideas and interact.”
Dr. Amoakohene assured the committee that his use of social media would focus on promoting the development of the region.
“I want to assure the committee that I’m going to use the platform to promote good governance and leverage it so that everyone can support the developmental agenda of the region and the country at large. This way, we’ll be able to engage the youth and get them to take ownership of the government’s developmental policies,” he emphasised.
He reiterated his commitment to utilizing social media as a tool for progress while ensuring it complements, rather than detracts from, his ministerial responsibilities.
