Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has emphasised that anyone who violates the law must be made to face the appropriate consequences. While acknowledging the right to demonstrate, he stated that it should not lead to lawlessness.
He made these remarks in an interview on Angel FM on Wednesday, October 10, 2024. according to a report by 3news.com.
“If you attack a police officer or take away their car key, you must face the law or be punished. We can’t let them go scot-free", he stated.
His remarks follow the recent three-day protest organised by Democracy Hub to draw attention to the negative impact of illegal mining activities popularly known as galamsey in the country.
During the protest, one of the leaders of Democracy Hub, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, removed the ignition keys of a police towing vehicle, claiming his actions were intended to prevent the truck from causing injury to some protestors.
Since his arrest, he has been denied bail on three occasions based on legal grounds.
