Suspected supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NCD) have raided the premises of the Bono Regional Office of Forestry Commission, ransacked offices and made away with some valuable items and property of the Commission.
The incident happened when some staff and workers on duty had to abandon their official duties and run for their lives, as the irate supporters who wielded firearms, machetes and other offensive instruments raided the premises.
A worker on duty and an eyewitness who spoke to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on condition of anonymity on Tuesday said, “many of the workers of the commission are now traumatised and could not even come to work today”. “The motive of the raiders was not to harm the employees.
They just ransacked the offices and picked some valuable items, including money and other property”, another worker stated. According to the workers, the attackers seized two patrol vehicles of the commission and made away with several chainsaw machines and old vehicle batteries.
They also forcibly collected the personal monies and valuables of some of the staff on duty, and vandalised office doors and windows.
“The raiders forcibly opened the main gate, made way with several motorbikes, including that of security personnel and quantities of lumber packed in the premises”, the worker stated.
