Public Interest Advocate and member of the Alliance for Revolutionary Change, Rosaline Imoru Ayarna, has advised the Electoral Commission (EC), led by Jean Mensa, to maintain peace in the country by conducting free and fair elections.

During a panel discussion on TV3’s New Day, she emphasized that Madam Jean Mensa holds the key to the nation’s peace and must be told directly to do the right thing.

“She should ensure we have a free, fair, and transparent election,” she stated, while criticizing the EC for refusing to allow the Coalition of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to observe the elections.

According to her, CSOs act as monitoring groups that report critical issues requiring attention, making it necessary for the EC to grant them the accreditation they have requested to observe the elections.

It would be recalled that the Coalition of Civil Society Organizations involved in election observation, led by the Centre for Conflict Resolution-Ghana (CENCOR), recently expressed disappointment over the EC’s refusal to accredit them for monitoring the upcoming 2024 General Elections.

The group argued that this decision reflects a lack of accountability and prudence on the part of the EC Chairperson, Jean Mensa, with potential consequences for both the state and her leadership.

Rosaline Ayarna also pointed out that the EC’s past actions have caused many Ghanaians to lose trust in the electoral body.
