John Kumah's arrest is political equalisation - Titus Glover

Former Attorney General Joe Ghartey and fellow lawyer Atta Akyea amidst a host of other lawyers have stormed the Economic and Organised Crimes Office (EOCO) in an attempt to free detained New Patriotic Party (NPP) member John Kumah.

The NPP Communication team member has been in the custody of EOCO for over 21 hours since mid-afternoon on Wednesday.

John Kumah was arrested around 3pm right after participating in a programme at an Accra based private radio station, Okay FM in Accra.

Confirming the story to XYZ News, another member of the NPP’s Communication Team, Titus Glover said John Kumah is still in the presence of the Joe Ghartey and his team as the explore ways to get him released.

According to Titus Glover, John Kumah told them that “he was approached by an NDC friend that he should assist him to secure a work. So John actually used his company to enable [his friend] to secure the job.”

He narrated that the friend did everything independently off John Kumah even though he was using the latter’s documents but John realized that the whole process was a set up.

Titus Glover accused the NDC of complicity, saying the party is attempting to paint an NPP member black so as to retaliate on the allegations of corruption leveled against government officials.

“This is what we call the politics of equalization. You know, we have been bashing the NDC about the dissipation of state resources. The organized way professionally they are stealing the exchequer and just yesterday (Wednesday) our flagbearer launched to make a statement on corruption,” he alleged.

He said the NDC schemed to pick him up ahead of the NPP’s statement and that it was an attempt to cover up the plethora of allegations.

He has since been in the custody of EOCO with a man he refers to as his business consultant whom he refers to as Henry.

XYZ News can confirm that, John Kumah and his consultant are being held for alleged Bank Fraud. John Kumah is a known firebrand of the NPP who is a regular social commentator on radio.

Lawyer Mike Ocquaye is also in the offices of EOCO to support his colleague lawyers free John Kumah.

Some members and leaders of the NPP are currently on their way to EOCO to assess the situation and press for his release.
