The Minister for Finance, Dr. Amin Adams, has challenged the expertise and fortitude of the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama, in managing crises, specifically economic crises.
Speaking to supporters of the New Patriotic Party in the Bantama Constituency during a rally, the minister said Mr. Mahama, unlike the flagbearer of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, lacks the experience of managing an actual economic crisis and will therefore sink the country when elected back into power.
“When Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia becomes president, all the people of Ghana will feel improved living conditions; you will feel it in your lives, you will feel it in your pockets, you will feel it in your homes. But as I speak to you, the NDC has not seen a crisis before, so John Mahama doesn’t have experience on how to take Ghana out of crisis. If you vote for John Mahama, Ghana will sink into crisis after crisis after crisis. They don’t have the experience to address economic crises,” he stated.
The NPP, amidst the current economic difficulties, has defended its record, citing the impact of the Russia-Ukraine war and the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic as the main external drivers behind the economic challenges.
The party insists that despite the challenges, it has shown competence under the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia-led administration.
Dr. Bawumia and Mr. Mahama remain frontrunners in the upcoming December 7 presidential election.
