Some market women at the Kumasi Racecourse and Kejetia have called on the NPP frontiers, including President Nana Akufo-Addo, Vice President and flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and the entire NPP NEC, to select Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as Napo, as Bawumia's running mate.

Vigorously demonstrating their love for the Manhyia South lawmaker and energy minister, they staged a float in the early hours of Tuesday at the Racecourse Market and made a humble call on the NPP leadership to, as a matter of urgency, grant their request.

Appearing in T-shirts branded with the picture of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, they danced to the tune of drums played by bandsmen.

The traders were captured holding placards and chanting "Napo must come," "Napo is the man," and "Napo for Veep."

Addressing the media after the float, a leading executive of the tomato sellers association, Obaapanin Akoma, said their call is informed by the magnitude of the impact made by Dr. Napo at the Energy Ministry, Ministry of Education, and other facets of Ghana's economy, adding that ignoring him for a different person for the running mate position would be very unfortunate.

She described Napo as the best man for the position, adding that pairing Napo with Bawumia would help in addressing challenges faced by traders in Kumasi and beyond.

She expressed optimism that bringing Napo on board would fast-track the completion of the second phase of the Kejetia-central market redevelopment.

"Napo is as humble as Bawumia. He should not be sidelined for anybody," she said.

According to her, traders in Kumasi have a strong affection and trust for Napo, not merely for any intangible reasons but based on the fact that he is very competent. They said it would be a great disappointment if Napo was ignored.

They were also of the firm conviction that Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh's pairing with Bawumia would ease the 'breaking the eight' agenda since he has the strongest support from every part of the country.

Meanwhile, campaigns for people to become running mates of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia keep surging as different groups within the NPP come out with their reasons.

Notable names for the running mate slot include the Education Minister, Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum, Ellen Naa Torshie, and Frema Osei Opare, amongst others.
