Lawyer Gary Nimako, the ruling New Patriotic Party's (NPP) head of legal affairs has dismissed reports that under fire Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng had been asked to quit his job months back.
The claim was first made on live TV by lawyer Martin Kpebu but Marfo insists that that allegation was a falsehood.
“Anybody saying that the Jubilee House or His Excellency the President is behind a move or an attempt to kick out my own brother, Kissi Agyebeng, that statement is false; there is no merit in it as a matter of fact, it is not true,” Marfo submitted on pro-government Asaase Radio over the weekend.
He stressed that if Kpebu's allegation had any truth, he (Marfo) would have picked that information from the corridors of power or Agyebeng, with whom he has a personal relationship.
“I would have been aware about this particular matter,” Marfo said.
“Either I’ll hear from government cycles myself or Kissi himself would have told me that there’s a suggestion that he should resign and he has refused to resign and therefore, he’s now being hounded out of office. That suggestion has not come,” he emphasized.
He addressed the source of the allegation, stating: “It is not true and the person who said it, that is Martin Kpebu, who made a statement, I’m telling you he has no credibility at all.
"I don’t know where he heard it from. I am saying that it is not true and the public might disregard all these things and let’s move on with our lives,” he added.
Amidu petitions Akufo-Addo to remove Agyebeng:
Meanwhile, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has submitted a petition to the Chief Justice for the removal of Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng.
The petition was filed by the inaugural SP Martin Amidu, who has accused Agyebeng of procurement breaches and abuse of office.
Agyebeng was appointed Amidu's successor in 2021.
Over the past three years, Amidu has consistently criticized Agyebeng regarding his leadership style and other operational matters.
