The New Patriotic Party General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong is not pleading for mercy before the Disciplinary Committee of the party as is being reported by a section of the media, his special aide Davis Opoku has said.

Reports are rife that the embattled General Secretary who is facing the leadership of the NPP over petitions of misconduct against him has cowed and pleading for forgiveness from the party members and its leadership.

But speaking to Fiifi Banson on Kasapa FM Monday, Opoku said his boss is resolute and has the capacity to defend himself without kowtowing to pressure.

“Kwabena Agyepong has not rendered any apology, the reports are certainly not true. He was called back to Accra from Amenfi Central where he is preparing the grounds with other party officers for the upcoming by-election. He is responding to all the charges raised against him. Mr Agyepong is a disciplined party member and will continue to attend before the disciplinary committee.

“Kwabena Agyepong has rubbished, and keeps rubbishing the suspension of Afoko from his chairmanship. This in our view is an act of mischievous contempt for the authority of the Party as a whole, including its elders, its leadership, and its structures,” he stated.

Mr. Agyepong is billed to meet the leadership of the party again this week for a decision to be taken on the matters brought against him.

Meanwhile, the national chairperson of the party Paul Afoko is still serving an indefinite suspension.
