Agona Swedru, Nov 26, GNA - Mr Alan Kyeremanten, one of the NPP presidential hopefuls has stated that he would pay allowances to polling station chairmen to start a house-house campaign if he was given the nod on December 22, 2008 by the delegates at the national congress of the party.
He also promised to give a bicycle each to all polling station executives if he was elected as the flag bearer for the 2008 elections. Mr Kyeremanten gave these assurances when he addressed polling station and constituency executives from Agona West and East, Ajumako and Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa at Agona Swedru.
He called on the delegates to elect some body who could be marketed and be acceptable to Ghanaians to take over from President J. A. Kufuor. The former Trade and Industry and PSI Minister, stated that he still stood by his promise to donate pickups to all the 230 constituencies to ensure proper party organisation to defeat the minority NDC again in next year's elections.
Mr Kyeremanten said the NPP must maintain power because of the assertion by the NDC that the government should expanded the Nsawam Prisons but stated that it could only be possible with a credible Presidential candidate.
He denied rumours that President Kufuor was supporting his candidature, saying that, "All these things are political gimmicks by certain characters to tarnish my good since I joined the NPP in 1992". The former said since 1992 he had been an executive member of the party and Chairman of the Young Executives Forum and wondered why certain people were claiming that he was not a card bearing member. Mr Kyeremanten noted that the only problem facing them was for the government to create jobs and wealth to raise their living standards and said in spite of the cheap propaganda being peddled against him credible opinion polls conducted by experts still rated him as one of the top contenders to win the December 22, 2007 delegates congress.
Mr Kyerermanten earlier paid a courtesy call on the Omanhene of the Agona Nyakrom Traditional Area Nana Okofo Katakyi Nyakoh Eku X and his Divisional Chiefs at Nyakrom after he and his entourage had interacted with party members at Breman Asikuma, in the Asikuma-Odoben Brakwa District.
He also addressed polling station chairmen and constituency executives at Winneba as part of his campaign tour to solicit votes from them.
