Lead the campaign to educate people on government successes - Antwi

Kumasi, Sept.19, GNA - Mr Osei-Assibey Antwi, Ashanti Regional First Vice-Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called on Constituency executives of the party to lead the campaign in educating the people on the achievements of the Government. He said "they should see themselves as polling agents and start from house-to-house educating and informing the people on the achievements of the party."

Mr Antwi made the call when addressing Executive members of the Suame constituency of the party after they were re-elected unopposed at a special constituency delegates conference held at New Suame in Kumasi at the weekend.

He pointed out that the Government had made tremendous improvement in the living standards of Ghanaians especially in education, the economy, transport and health sectors therefore, Constituency executives, supporters and sympathisers of the party should not allow the opposition to discredit the Government through lies and negative propaganda.

"As party activists we must be well informed to neutralize strategies of the opposition and let the people know that the Government is on course to fulfil their hopes and aspirations," he added. Mr Antwi said the ability of the party to remain in power would depend on the organisation and support at all levels, and urged them to conduct their education and campaign peacefully. He commended the executives for their good and hard work in ensuring peace and progress in the constituency. Mr Bobie Ansah, Second Ashanti Regional Vice-Chairman, who swore the executive into another four-year term of office, asked them to respect the party's constitution and continued to discharge their duties without fear or favour.

Mr Badu Adu-Boahen, the Constituency chairman, thanked the members for their support and co-operation and pledged to work hard towards the 2008 general elections.

He stressed the need for members and supporters of the party to close their ranks in preparation for the 2008 elections, adding "the election is very crucial because President Kufuor's tenure of office ends and a new flag bearer of the party would be chosen who should be marketed to win."

Madam Georgina Osei Tutu, Ashanti Regional Organizer of the party, commended the executive members for retaining their positions and asked them not to relax but work harder to support the party and the Government. 19 Sept.05
