Let not Karbo wreck our peace and stability - ThinkTank

Director of the Democratic Institute of Ghana (DIG), E. M. N. Ametor-Quarmyne is calling on Ghanaians to condemn the New Patriotic Party’s Anthony Karbo for what he describes as the “most diabolical plot” to disrupt the December polls allegedly captured on tape.

According to Mr Ametor-Quarmyne, “this plot is most disturbing because in the recent past, NPP operatives… have made scary statements bordering on disturbing the peace and stability of our dear nation.”

A secret tape recording baring a voice with a striking similarity to that of Mr Karbo was released on Monday by a pro-government pressure group. The individual on the tape is heard plotting to use the services of mercenaries tagged as “bad boys” from Libya, Togo, Benin and Liberia.

There were plots targeted at the Electoral Commission and senior members of the Ghana Armed Forces who hail from the Volta Region.

In a statement, Mr. Karbo denied knowledge of the said secret tape and accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of scheming to cow him into submission for exposing some alleged rot in the government.

But in reaction to the said comments, the DIG in statement said: “This latest plot of Anthony Kaboo to target the military, especially senior officers of Ewe ethnic extraction, a particular very senior officer of the Police Service also an Ewe, and some very important national institutions including the Electoral Commission to denigrate and bring down their credibility in order to pave way for the rejection of the outcome of the elections causing confusion and chaos and subsequently mayhem in this country, is the most scary of all yet.”

The Director of the Institute called on all Ghanaians to stand against such a plot and condemn it in unison.

LET NOT KARBO WRECK OUR PEACE AND STABILITY

A most worrying development on our political scene almost a month to our elections must give all Ghanaians cause for sleepless nights.

Since a couple of days now a number of radio stations and newspapers have been broadcasting andpublishing the contents of a tape recording which most people recognize as being the voice of Mr. ANTHONY KABOO, a leading member of the New Patriotic Party, one of the party's Parliamentary candidates who until a couple of days ago was the NPP's National Youth Organizer, and a member of its national executive committee.

The Democratic Institute of Ghana(DIG) wishes to join all Ghanaians of goodwill for our country in condemning this most diabolical plot which has the tendency to wreck our peace and stability which all of us have so tirelessly worked forth since the advent of the forth republic some twenty years now.

This plot is most disturbing because in the recent past, NPP operatives including Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo the Party's presidential candidate, Hon. Kennedy Agyepong, Mr. Sammy Awuku, Deputy Communications Director of the NPP campaign, and Mr. Anthony Kaboo, then the National Youth Organizer of the NPP have all made scary statements bordering on disturbing the peace and stability of our dear nation.

This latest plot of Anthony Kaboo to target the military, especially senior officers of Ewe ethnic extraction, a particular very senior officer of the Police Service also an Ewe, and some very important national institutions including the Electoral Commission to denigrate and bring down their credibility in order to pave way for the rejection of the outcome of the elections causing confusion and chaos and subsequently mayhem in this country, is the most scary of all yet.

Not only that, this diabolical plan also makes room for the recruitment of mercenaries from our neighbouring countries to launch attacks on us all in the singular desire to make this country ungovernable, paving way for the NPP to usurp political power.

This most callous plan fits well into Kaboo's earlier threat some time last year that if the NPP did not win this year's elections, then there will be Afghanistan in this country, meaning that the NPP will plunge the country into war.

This is no joking matter to be treated lightly, because looking back into our political history, this plot which poses the greatest threat to our peace and stability as a nation, and indeed our democracy for which we have been known and hailed in the whole of Africa, fits perfectly into the character and make-up of the political tradition on which the NPP was founded.

This is a matter for the security agencies to deal with using all the powers at their disposal and it must not be tagged as a political witch hunt.

The Democratic Institute of Ghana here and now calls on all well meaning Ghanaians of all political persuasions and in all walks of life to rise up in total condemnation of this most wicked plot. We must not wait for the harm to be done before pouring out sermons of platitudes.

Please, let not KABOO wreck our peace and stability

Long live our dear nation GHANA.

THE DEMOCRATIC INSTITUTE OF GHANA
