The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has initiated investigations into allegations of food distribution by Lydia Alhassan, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ayawaso West Wuogon, during the special voting exercise held at the Legon Police Station on December 2, 2024, according to a citinewsroom.com report.
According to the report, the MP, who is also the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate for the constituency, was seen handing out food packs with the assistance of her team.
Electoral Commission officials and security personnel supervising the voting process were among the recipients of the distributed food, according to eyewitness accounts.
The food-sharing sparked agitation from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), whose parliamentary candidate, actor John Dumelo, along with party executives, expressed concerns over the MP’s actions.
They argued that such conduct could influence voters and compromise the integrity of the electoral process.
In response to reports of the viral incident, OSP personnel visited the Legon Police Station to gather information.
According to Citi News, OSP official confirmed to Channel One News reporter Samuel Ackom that investigators collected the contact details of key witnesses, including journalists, as part of their probe.
The OSP’s investigation aims to determine whether the actions of the MP and her team violated any electoral laws or constituted undue influence on the voting process.
