Mahama Ayariga has disabused the electorate in northern Ghana of the notion that John Mahama, while president, did not care about them or do much for them.

The MP for Bawku Central spoke at the campaign launch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Saturday, July 27, 2024, in Tamale, the capital of the Northern Region.

“Do not be deceived that John Mahama did not do anything for the North and so the North should not vote for him,” Ayariga cautioned.

To buttress his point, he underlined some of the projects Mr. Mahama had undertaken in the north of Ghana to speed up development. He pointed to the roads from Bimbilla to Gushegu, Walewale to Gambaga, phase two of the Tamale Teaching Hospital, Tamale International Airport, and nursing training colleges, among others.

He again impressed on the electorate that, of the two presidential candidates, both northerners, former President John Mahama was superior to Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia.

The lawyer supported his point by highlighting Mahama's tenure as chairman of the economic management team, arguing it was successful, evidenced by Ghana achieving the world's highest economic growth rate of 14.5% in 2010.

He juxtaposed the above with Dr. Alhaji Bawumia’s tenure in the same office, noting the troubles that have plagued the banking and financial sectors.

To restore the times he recalled, he encouraged the audience to vote massively and restore John Mahama to the Golden Jubilee House come December 7, 2024.
