Joyce Bawah Mogtari, the Spokesperson for John Dramani Mahama - Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, has rubbished claims by a section of the media attributing a visit by the former president to Russia to seeking assistance from the Russian government for the 2024 elections.

In a press release dated Friday, July 12, 2024, Joyce Bawah Mogtari said the claims are unfounded and thus must be treated with the contempt it deserves.

Explaining reasons for the visit, the statement said that John Mahama embarked on the trip to Moscow to launch the Russian Language translation of his memoir titled ‘My First Coup D'état and Other stories’ from the Lost Decades of Africa, at the Russian Academy of Sciences.

“Pro-government media outlets, Asaase Radio and Daily Guide on Thursday gave further meaning to their shadowy and unethical journalism practice with the publication of deliberately concocted stories accusing the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, of seeking assistance from the government of Russia for the 2024 election,” portions of the statement said.

The statement further reiterated the NDC’s focus on engaging Ghanaians with their vision to catalyse the reset of the country.

“We urge the discerning Ghanaian public to completely disregard these lies as no such thing has occurred. Mr Mahama and the NDC remain focused on engaging the people of Ghana on his well-considered and carefully curated vision, which will catalyse the reset of our country towards building the Ghana we want together,” the statement urged.
