The Electoral Commission has clarified that it has not featured President John Mahama in any of its advertisements.
A new NDC advert which features President Mahama urging the youth to go out and register when the EC opens the register for new voters, has sparked rumours of a collaboration between the Presidency and the commission.
The advert, which is part of Mahama’s campaign strategy to entice the youth, especially first time voters to register when the Electoral Management Body opens registration from April 28 to May 8, 2016, is one of the rare cases where a sitting Ghanaian president appears in an advert with the ordinary voter to discuss electoral issues.
Responding to the issue, the EC in a statement said: “This Commission has not produced any advertisement featuring the President of the Republic. Any claims to that effect are false".
Below are details of the statement by EC
This Commission has not produced any advertisement featuring the President of the Republic. Any claims to that effect are false.
The Commission is currently in the process of rolling out its own publicity plans for the upcoming limited voter registration exercise. More information on that will be posted here as well as on our website:
