Percival Kofi Akpaloo, the Liberal Party of Ghana presidential candidate, has criticized former President John Dramani Mahama’s 24-hour economy policy as poorly thought-out.

The Ghanaian politician stated that the proposal was not something Mr. Mahama had considered or planned to implement, but rather a slip of the tongue that occurred at a meeting with the Trades Union Congress.

He claimed that the policy first came up when Mahama was engaging with members of the TUC and the business community, and the leader of the TUC, who is also a registered member of the NDC, went to town with it, and it became a sensation.

He said during an interview on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM that Mahama, his assigns, and the members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have not been able to explain the 24-hour economy to the understanding of Ghanaians because they don’t understand it themselves.

He posited that President John Dramani Mahama is not an alternative to the mess created by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP). “There is no way the country will develop if we keep doing business as usual.

"So, if we want this country to move forward, the NDC and Mahama are not options. We cannot vote out the NPP and bring in the NDC.

"Mahama is not an option. As a young and wise person who wants to make money, Mahama is not an option. I was expecting the NDC to give us tangible reasons why they want us to vote for them, but they have not been able to do so.

"They have not been able to explain what the 24-hour economy is about. I think it was a slip of the tongue. When they met the TUC, he said he wanted to build a 24-hour economy.

"It wasn’t like a properly thought-through policy. He had not planned the policy. It was a slip of the tongue, and so after it came up, Mr. Yaw Baah, who is an NDC person, also trumpeted it. The policy is not well thought through. It lacks clarity. Besides, the 24-hour economy is already with us. Secondly, it is not every aspect of our economy that needs a 24-hour economy.”
