Hundreds of party enthusiasts thronged the premises of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s Headoffice, Thursday afternoon to welcome President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as he files to contest in the party’s presidential primaries.
Clad in party colours with various regalias, these supporters, with music playing in the background danced about, others waving as the President arrived with his convoy after his State of the Nation Address in parliament.
Unlike the last election year, President Akufo-Addo is the only candidate who has so far picked the party’s presidential nomination forms for the flagbearership slot ahead of election 2020 since the opening of nomination a month ago.
The President is, for the fourth time, seeking the endorsement of the delegates of the NPP to lead the party to the general elections of 2020 as its Presidential Candidate, following previous attempts in 2008, 2012, and 2016.
In line with the NPP's constitution and the rules and regulations for their upcoming primaries, the President, being the sole contestant thus far, is expected to be acclaimed as the party’s 2020 flagbearer at a National Congress to be held simultaneously across the country on 25 April.
