Many activists of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Jaman North Constituency of the Brong Ahafo region have defected to the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The NDC supporters, including former financiers, cited the neglect of the district and criticized the sitting Member of Parliament (MP), Alexander Asum Ahensan for failing to develop the district.
According to them, the Jaman North District is one of the most deprived areas in the country with bad roads, no access to quality water and electricity, deplorable health and educational facilities, among others.
The former NDC kingpins noted that the MP, who doubles as a minister of state, failed to champion the development of the district.
The aggrieved NDC supporters, numbering about 500, said when they attempted to express their dissatisfaction with the plight of the people in the district, the MP ordered his bodyguard to shoot them, an incident which gravely harmed one of the NDC supporters in the area.
They criticized the Chieftaincy and Culture Minister and appealed to their friends in the NDC to join them to vote against the MP and the corrupt NDC government from power.
The leadership of the group described Nana Akufo-Addo as the right man for Ghana due to his ambitious dream for the economic transformation and free education policies.
They urged the people in the constituency to vote for Nana Akufo-Addo as president and the NPP parliamentary candidate of the area, Siaka Steven as MP to ensure the rapid development of the district.
The people of Sampa noted that road projects in the town, which were awarded on contract by the NPP, had been abandoned.
Many people described the huge crowd that welcomed Nana Akufo-Addo at Sampa as unprecedented.
Addressing the charged crowd, Nana Akufo-Addo assured the people of Jaman North that his government, if given the nod, will make the cashew business very attractive to farmers.
He said his administration will give equal opportunities and incentives to cashew farmers to boost the cashew industry.
The NPP flagbearer also promised to rehabilitate the bad roads in the constituency and provide health care facilities and other social amenities in response to the various requests made to him by chiefs in the towns.
The chiefs lauded Nana Addo’s free SHS education policy and condemned attempts by the ruling party to discredit it.
He visited communities such as Zezera, Meremano, Atuna, Dodosuo 1 & 2 and Drobo in the Jaman South Constituency.
At Jaman North, Nana Addo and his team toured Seketia, Suma Ahenkro, Jamera, Duadaso 1 & 2 Goka and also made whistle stops at several communities.
