Koforidua, Oct.10, GNA - Assistant Commissioner of Police, George A. Anko-Bil, Chairman of Eastern Regional Election Task Force on Friday, appealed to the media to endeavour to create the necessary awareness among the public to ensure peaceful Election 2008. He said the media should continue to build confidence in the electorate and be circumspect in their reportage and not inflame passions. ACP Anko-Bil, who is also Eastern Regional Police Commander, was interacting with the media to update them on activities of the task force in Koforidua. He said the task force had intensified its educational programme to create awareness among the people on the need to ensure peace before, during and after Election 2008. ACP Anko-Bil noted that Afram Plains area had been identified as a difficult area but unfortunately out of the three ferries plying the area only one was in good condition. "We are in touch with authorities of Ghana Navy to ensure safety of Electoral Commission (EC) officials and other workers including observers who would operate in those areas on polling day". He said 240 flash points in the region had been identified and were working around the clock to ensure an incident free election in those areas. ACP Anko-Bil said the task force had requested leaders of political parties in the Region to furnish them with names of their aspiring Parliamentarians to undertake periodic discussions with them. He assured the public that the task force was firmly in control of security in the Region therefore, no-one should panic.
