Minister predicts overwhelming victory for Mills at congress

Koforidua, July 07, GNA - Dr Kwasi Akyem Apea-Kubi, the Eastern Regional Minister, has predicted an overwhelming victory for President John Atta Mills at the Sunyani congress.

He said President Mills' commitment to the development of the country and his humility had endeared him to the people of Ghana.

Dr Apea-Kubi said this when he interacted with journalists at the Residency in Koforidua.

He said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had been through very interesting times, especially from the beginning of this year and that the party had not been the same as it was some time ago.

He said wrangling in the party in recent times had rejuvenated it.

The Regional Minister said he was sure as soon as the contest was over, all factions in the party would settle down to work together as a party to retain power in 2012.

"The party has become so interesting that nobody would want to leave it; we are going to work together as a team for 2012" he said. Dr Apea-Kubi said the Eastern Region delegates of the NDC had promised President Mills their massive support to become the flag bearer.

He said he agreed with Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings on many issues except her intention to contest President Mills.

"Nana Kunadu is a wonderful woman who has done so much for the party and Ghana. She has spurred the party on by coming out to say what is going wrong but I do not agree with her when she came out to contest the President barely two years in power."

Dr Apea-Kubi said the time had not yet come for Ghana to change President Mills, saying, 93I personally think he is one person that should remain our flag bearer for the 2012 election."

He appealed to journalists in the region to be circumspect in their reportage and should not concentrate on party politics but should also pay attention to developmental issues.
