Kumasi, Aug 3, GNA- Mrs Elizabeth Agyeman, a 56-year-old businesswoman, has been elected as the New Patriotic Party parliamentary candidate for the newly created Oforikrom Constituency in Kumasi. Mrs Agyeman polled 47 votes to beat four male contestants, including Dr Baffoe Bonnie, MP for Asokwa East, who had 32 votes. Alhaji Abdula Munkata had six votes, Mr Audu Rauf, 10 votes and Mr Osei Bonsu had five votes.
In an acceptance speech, Mrs Agyeman said one of her priorities would be the improvement of education in the constituency and appealed to the losing contestants to support her to win the seat for the party. Mr Frederick Fredua Antoh, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party, said the region was poised to obtain 96 percent in the total votes that would be cast in the 2004 elections and urged supporters to work hard to enable the party to achieve the target. He called for peace and in the party to ensure that it wins the December elections.
