Muslim scholar advocates a Muslim running mate for NDC

Tamale, March 30, GNA- Sheikh Issah Modow, a leading Muslim scholar at the Ambaryya Islamic Institute in Tamale has advocated for the choice of a Muslim as running mate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Sheikh Modow held that one of the surest ways the NDC could win the massive support of the Zongos and Muslims was to choose a Muslim. This was contained in a press release he issued to the Ghana News Agency in Tamale on Friday.

"The population of Muslims is growing at an astronomic rate in the country, making us very influential in the choice of a leader for the country and the Party can not overlook this", he said. "We have been consulting with the Muslim community in the Zongo areas and across the country and the general consensus is that they need a Muslim to partner Professor John Atta Mills so they can feel a sense of identification and a responsibility to ensure Party victory", Sheikh Modow said.

Sheikh Modow, who is also a leading member of the NDC in the Northern region, said he was calling on the national leadership to seriously consider what he termed, "this wise counsel for the benefit of the party".
