The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) on Thursday cautioned disabled persons in the country to protect their Biometric Voter Registration identity card.
“Protect your Voter Identity Cards from suspicious characters and personalities with enticing words of keeping your cards for you or using the cards as collateral for loans.
“You should not be deceived into giving your identity cards to anyone, all in the name of safekeeping since some of these people have their own agenda,” Mr Prosper Lagble, Deputy Greater Accra Regional Director stated at a workshop for members of Ghana Association for the Deaf (GNAD) in Accra.
He urged the association members to immediately report to the Police or the Electoral Commission with the receipt of their identity card when they lose it.
Mr Johnson Mahama, GNAD Project Manager, appealed to media houses especially television stations to employ the services of sign language interpreters to enable people with hearing impairment benefit from their news items.
He however expressed concern about the failure of some political parties to attend their workshop without any apologies.
The sensitization programme was attended by 24 executive members from the Western, Volta, Greater Accra and the Central Region.
Participants were sensitized on the rudiments of Elections 2012, and civic responsibility of every Ghanaian.
The workshop was sponsored by STAR-Ghana a multi- donor pooled funding mechanism (Funded by DFID, DANIDA, EU and USAID) to increase the influence of civil society and Parliament in the governance of public goods and service delivery.**
