NCCE intensifies education on making upcoming elections peaceful

The Director of National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in charge of programmes monitoring and evaluation, has called on Ghanaians to allow the peace the nation is enjoying to remain intact after December 7 elections.

Ms Fanny Kumah asked Ghanaians to value national peace and guard jealously against it.

Ms Kumah was speaking at a forum organised by the Gomoa West District Directorate of the NCCE at Gomoa Enyeme near Dawurampong in the Central Region.

“Let us make Ghana to win the election for the nation’s prestige in democratic dispensation to remain intact,” she said.

Mr Cletus Abang, Regional Director of NCCE appealed to the electorate to observe the electoral rules to facilitate peaceful, fair and transparent elections.

He cautioned parents to prevent their children who are below 18 years from voting.

Ms Georgina Yeboah, Gomoa West NCCE Director advised registered voters to exercise their franchise on December 7, adding that nothing must prevent them from voting.

“Do not refuse to go and vote because you cannot find your voter’s identity card,” NCCE District Director said.

Mr Baah Tenkorang, Gomoa West District Planning Officer said since Ghanaians had decided to practice multi-party democracy it enjoined all citizens to cooperate to make it a success.

“Political opponents must not be regarded as enemies,” he said.

Mr Tenkorang pointed out that Africa’s development is being retarded by electoral disturbances and appealed to the continent’s leaders to curb the anomaly.

He suggested that the peace accord signed by the leaders of political parties in Kumasi recently must be signed by all parliamentary aspirants as well in their constituencies.

Mr Tenkorang called on leaders of the political parties to back their words of peace with action.

Mr Kwamen Nyame, a member of the District Political Parties dialogue Committee urged Ghanaians to take a second look at the “winner-take-all” policy.

He said the policy is the cause of electoral unrest on the continent.
