Former President John Mahama has described as fake, a statement circulating on social media which is attributed to his Special Aide Joyce Bawah Mogtari claiming he has rescinded his decision to run for the flag bearer slot of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2020 polls.
“Poor English construction!” Mr Mahama said on Facebook in reference to the fake statement, adding: “Does not match up to a write-up from my Aide, Joyce Mogtari”.
In May this year, Mr Mahama gave the strongest indication that he would run for the leadership position again.
“To you, the teeming supporters and sympathisers calling and requesting me to declare my intentions for the future, I wish to assure you today, which as a servant-leader, I have listened to your calls and reflected. I will not disappoint you even as we await the publication of the party’s guidelines for selecting a new leader” he wrote on Facebook.
The former president will be slugging it out with Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin; former CEO of the National Health Insurance Authority, Sylvester Mensah; Vice-Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Professor Joshua Alabi and former Minister of Trade and Industry Dr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, if he eventually runs.
