The Western Regional Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Joseph Nelson, has stated that the Electoral College constituted by the Party is unprecedented in the history of Ghana.

He said the NDC had given opportunity to every registered member of the Party to express his or her

Views through voting for their preferred parliamentary candidates without limiting the voting right to few delegates unlike what pertains in other political parties.

“This has removed the temptation of some parliamentary aspirants camping delegates at a particular place to probably influence them to vote in their favour,” he noted.

Mr Joseph Nelson told the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Takoradi that the Electoral College allowed eligible party members to vote at their branches in the constituency and chose their favourite candidates to lead them without any restrictions.

He said the voters’ register for all the 275 constituencies had been displayed and ineligible voters have been expunged and forwarded to the Electoral Commission for the primaries.

He said out of 73 aspirants who initially filed their nominations to contest the parliamentary primaries, less than four were disqualified therefore there are currently more than 60 parliamentary aspirants who would contest the primaries in the Region.
