NDC JUSTICE BENCH Dec.23,2011
PRESS RELEASE
We the above
youth group of the ruling National
Democratic Congress in the Tamale South Constituency, has warned the
party that it cannot get a smooth victory in 2012 general elections with
the current wrangling going on in the party.
Former President Jerry John Rawlings believe, the Atta
Mills led NDC administration has disowned him as a member of the party he
formed out of the PNDC because of his stand for justice, probity and
accountability hence the need for all NDC members who are loyal to his course
to be bold and wake up to the challenge of cleaning the party. We believe, the
opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) seems to be more
powerful than the ruling government, with the judiciary, media and the business
community being more sympathetic to NPP than the ruling government.
Jerry John Rawlings tasted power for the first at the age of 32. He was 35 when the
PNDC government
took over the rein of government.
He sacrificed his life (for a better
expression) to successfully overthrow a government.
The Citizens began demanding a more democratic form of government as the 1990s
progressed.Jerry John Rawlings answered this demand by forming a National Commission
for
Democracy (NCD), empowered to hold regional debates and formulate some
suggestions for a transition to multi-party democracy. Although opposition
groups complained that the NCD was too closely associated with the PNDC, the
commission continued its work through 1991. In March of that year the NCD
released a report recommending the election of an executive president, the
establishment of a national assembly, and the creation of a prime minister
post. After two terms in office, barred by the constitution from standing in
any election, he anointed his then vice-president John Atta-Mills, now the
president as his choice to replaced him as President. Ghanaians rejected his
choice in the 2000 election by voting for then opposition NPP's candidate, John
Kufuor.
After 19 years in active politics, Rawlings never retire from politics, He
travel the length and breadth of the nation making sure his party(ndc) is back in
power, when some were now dreaming to start their journey. Today those people
are now trying to down play the integrity of former president Rawlings. Let no
one deceive any member in NDC that, Mr. Rawlings is not a political figure. As we are
getting to the 30th year of the 31st December revolution,we edge all those who are
true ndc persons to use this day to unite the rank and file of the ndc,Because, ndc
was born out of this great day.
We warns unless pragmatic measures are put in place to heal wounds
and build bridges, the party would be in serious trouble come 2012 general
elections.
We also warns, those in the top positions shouldn't think the delegates
represent the views of the ordinary masses that will be voting in 2012 general
elections. We believe former President Jerry Rawlings is the most popular
political figure in the country, and commands about 30 percent votes for
the NDC, and as such, it would be suicidal for the party to ignore him in
efforts towards retaining power in 2012.We are using this opportunity to also advice
all delegates to vote for winnable, dedicated, committed candidates and not the higher
bider.
We are therefore calling on committed and dedicated members of the party to be
careful with their choice of words in this coming primaries and to work hard this
coming year to unite the ndc party.
Long live Jerry Rawlings,Long live ndc, long live Ghana
