NDC MP appeals for positive media coverage

Wa, April 11 GNA - Mr. Rashid Pelpuo, Member of Parliament for Wa Central, on Tuesday appealed to the Ghanaian media to give the National Democratic Congress (NDC) favourable coverage and exposure.

He said NDC as a party might have in one way or the other offended some Journalists, but that should not be used as a measuring rod to constantly vilify the Party as if it had not done anything good worth reporting.

Mr. Pelpuo who was speaking in interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said there were some Journalists in the country who never recognised anything good about NDC although it achieved a lot while in office.

"NDC may have made some political mistakes in the past but Journalists should also remember that NDC did so much for Ghanaians until they left office in 2001".

He however admitted that some media organisation were performing their duties objectively and appealed to the Ghana Journalists Association to consider sanctioning those who reported unethically.

"That does not mean that all the Journalists in the country are not objective but there are some of them who even wished that NDC never existed in the country which is so bad for democratic dispensation, he added.

The MP said he would use part of his Common Fund to establish a library for the Municipality, adding that he had already acquired books for that purpose.

Mr. Pelpuo said he would support two communities -- Nakori and Chomsa - to get a Junior Secondary School.

He said he had distributed 15,000 exercises books to basic schools within the Constituency.

The MP said he had renovated and expanded three schools, including Ahmaddiya Senior Secondary School in Wa and donated 100 bags of cement for Wa Islamic Secondary School.

"For two years running now I have provided funds for schools to conduct Basic Education Certificate Mock examinations for the students to get acquainted with printed question papers.
