A member of the Coalition of Independent Presidential candidates (CIPA), Marricke Kofi Gane, has said his team is poised to snatch the presidential seat from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the coming elections.
In an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb, Thursday, July 2, 2020, he said, “We’ve been doing a lot of work and so we are confident that we will emerge…I have no doubt that definitely an independent candidate will win this year”.
According to him, the two major political parties – New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the largest opposition party – National Democratic Congress (NDC) have nothing better to offer Ghanaians in the upcoming December polls.
Speaking on why the Coalition has distanced itself from the NPP or the NDC, Mr. Gane said joining any of the above political parties would mean endorsing ‘corrupt’ people who have already led the country into darkness for the past 27 years.
He said “The reality is that these guys – NPP, NDC have been in charge of this country and have been messing it up for the past 27 years. If they were going to do something different, they’d have done it by now so us joining of those political parties is more or less us trying to endorse what they have been trying to do for 27 years plus which has not been beneficial to Ghanaians”.
Mr. Gane further said, “We’re not in the mood to endorse any of them and what they are doing so that’s why we decided to run as an independent candidate”.
Though they’ve not yet selected a candidate to represent them in the December 7 election, Mr. Gane pointed out that CIPA’s mission is to deliver an accountable, better citizen-centered management of the economy and a long- term agenda that secures the future of Ghana.
The Electoral Commission has also commenced the registration exercise for a new voters roll that would be used in the upcoming December 7 general elections.
