Constituency executives of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region, have postponed their scheduled polls indefinitely due to lack of funds.

Speaking to the media, Constituency Youth Organiser, Dada Alex, said funds transferred from the party’s headquarters in Accra to them for the polls, are woefully inadequate and cannot feed as well as transport the delegates from their various branches to the venue of the elections.

The Constituency Organiser-hopeful bemoaned why the aspirants could contribute over GHS9,200.00 directly to the treasury at the party headquarters through the purchase of nomination forms, yet only GHS5,000.00 was disbursed to the constituency for the elections.

He described the decision as unfortunate and called on national executives to reconsider the allocation.

But Regional Secretary, Raymond Tandoh, said the election will come off at the various constituencies, irrespective of funding difficulties. He said there are plans in place to resolve the Mampong Constituency issue.

The NDC is holding constituency polls nationwide tomorrow, Saturday, 23 June 2018.

A statement signed by General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia, said: “On behalf of the Functional Executive Committee of the NDC, I wish to announce that our 2018 constituency elections will come off as scheduled in all Constituencies across the country on Saturday, 23 June 2018, pending the transfer of all dues payment to the national account by Thursday, 21 June, 2018, failure of which will lead to the suspension of elections in the affected constituencies”.

The polls have been suspended in 16 constituencies.
