The Zongo Caucus of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has presented relief items to victims of a recent conflict in Hohoe in the Volta Region.
They include the Zongo community, the Gbi Traditional Council and relatives of those who lost their lives in the conflict.
The items included 20 bags of rice and 20 cartons of cooking oil
Alhaji Yussif Captain, National Coordinator of the NDC Zongo Caucus, who led the delegation said, “It is imperative for us as Ghanaians and Muslims to come and express our sympathy with you and give you the needed support.”
He said the incident did not go well with Ghanaians because peace was pre-requisite for unity and development, especially during an election year.
He called on the people to bury their differences and forge ahead with peace and development.
Alhaji Captain noted that the magic of peace was patience and respect, adding, “I called on the youth of the Zongo community to respect their elders and abide by the laws of the Gbi Traditional Council in order for peace to prevail.”
Alhaji Ismael Bawa, former Member of Parliament for Ablekuma Central and a leading member of the Zongo caucus said, Islam was a religion that stands for peace and entreated the leaders of both sides of the conflict to set an exemplary life by giving peace the chance to prevail.
Dr. Margaret Kweku, Municipal Chief Executive said a committee was set up by the President to investigate the cause of the conflict and all persons found culpable would face the rigorous of the law.
Chief Mohammed Tajudeen Mairiga, Chief of the Hohoe Zongo community, said since the visit of the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr. Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu to the area, the people had promise to not do anything to bridge the peace of the area.
He said there was no place for the Zongo community to run to, adding, “We have been in Hohoe for a number of years, and we would continue to live in Hohoe”.
The chiefs and elders of the Gbi Traditional Council also welcome the delegation and thanked them for their concern.**
