Chiefs of the Awutu Traditional Council are up in arms with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and have threatened to slap a ban on their activities in the area if the current crooked campaigns persists.

The Chiefs are in the interim demanding that Mr. Kwaku Ampong who is championing what they described as divisions in the area on political lines, renders an unqualified apology to the chiefs and people of the area or they will enforce their threats to serve as a deterrent to others.

At a press conference on Tuesday September 10, 2019, the Acting President of the Awutu Traditional Council, Nai Pobee Abundam VII expressed disappointment in the misinformation fueled by one Kwaku Ampong who doubles as the NDC Communication Officer of the constituency that the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Hon. George Andah was hooted at during the Awutu Awubia Festival.

‘’We call on the National Democratic Congress in the constituency to openly rebuke Mr. Ampong for peddling falsehood about the successful festival, an act which has brought the name of the Traditional Council and Planning Committee into disrepute.

This we will not take lightly. In as much political parties would like to push their candidates as the better option compared to that of the parties, involving the Traditional Council in such act is deemed disrespectful and denigrates our customs and culture.’’ He stressed

The Planning Committee for the Awubia Festival however expressed their profound gratitude to the Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. Nenyi George Andah and indicated that they would not have been able to achieve a successful event without the enormous support from him.

‘’Hon. Andah is a god-sent and has been of great assistant not only to the Traditional Council or the people of Awutu but the entire constituency and country at large. He indeed this years’ festival a memorable one and we wish all political parties and candidates will emulate his style.’’ He said.

“We would also like to thank the Regional Minister and MMDCEs and other corporate sponsors such as MTN, Vodafone, ABL and everybody who supported the in one way or the other.”

The Awubia festival is celebrated by the people of Awutu in the Central Region at the last week of August. It is week celebration to commiserate successful achievement of a bumper harvest, which the people of Awutu refer to as ‘Bia’, and the ceremonial offering of thanks to the gods and ancestors.
