At the National Democratic Congress (NDC) primary held in the Bolgatanga East constituency, one of the newly created constituencies in the Upper East Region; a 46-year-old law lecturer at the University of Ghana, Mr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, was elected as the party's parliamentary candidate for the December elections.
He polled 85 votes out of 137 votes cast to beat Mr. Azaa Ayamga, an accountant of the National Vocational Training Institute in Accra, who had 52 votes.
Mr. Bede A. Ziedeng, member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party, led a team to witness the election which was supervised by the Electoral Commission.
Mr. Ziedeng said whether the LI establishing the creation of the constituencies was passed through or not the NDC would continue to hold its primaries in earnest towards the general election.
Prior to the election, both candidates were made to sign an undertaken by the NEC and the Upper East Regional Executive of the party to comport themselves and to also support the winning candidate.
Mr. Ayine said his top priority would be to construct the party office and called on supporters to rally behind him to win the parliamentary seat for the party come December.
The Upper East Regional Minister, Mr. Mark Woyongo, commended the candidates for comporting themselves during the election and entreated the electorate to vote massively for the party to win both the parliamentary and presidential elections.
