Mr Dennis Amfo Sefah, a member of the Tema West branch of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on NDC communicators and other opposition members to eat the humble pie by apologising to Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia.
“I told you so; the NDC and other opposition members have been lying all along about the health status of the Vice President. They said that Dr. Bawumia had been paralysed by stroke, where is the evidence? These people who claimed that they were in comfortable lead in 2016 are never to be trusted.”
Mr Sefah who was speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Accra said he had maintained that their opponents had nothing to offer than spewing falsehood to create fear and panic in the country.
Following his earlier dismissal of rumours by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to the effect that Dr. Bawumia had suffered a debilitating stroke he told the GNA that he was vindicated for holding to that claim even in the midst of opposition.
Mr Sefah who is popularly known as Nana Boakye said: “Now that their wicked speculations have been proven to be lies, I hope they will exercise humility and apologise to Dr Bawumia”.
The man who is vying for the Constituency Chairman position of the NPP in Tema West said the NDC had every obligation to grovel and beg for forgiveness from Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia because the lies about his health were especially irresponsible.
He said Ghanaians also deserved an apology from the NDC and what he described as rented press for publishing falsehood about the second gentleman of the land and to some extent even suggesting his successors.
“The wicked speculations about our Vice President’s health were irresponsibly alarming and provocative. It was not only the Vice President’s family that had had to suffer the false alarms but all of us Ghanaians.”
Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia returned to Ghana on Thursday after spending 12 days in the UK on medical leave.
While away, there had been speculations that the Vice President had suffered poisoning that had led to cardiac arrest and stroke, which had paralysed him.
As the rumours gained centre stage on account of government’s silence on his health status Nana Boakye told GNA last week that the rumours were all lies that were fabricated by the NDC for mischief.
He went ahead to boldly predict that the Vice President would return to Ghana healthy and intact.
True to his prediction, Dr Bawumia returned to Ghana, Thursday evening, looking absolutely hale and hearty.
The Vice President was welcomed at the Kotoka International Airport by a government entourage led by President Akufo-Addo.
